ULTRA-LOW TEMPERATURE Storage (ULT)

from -30°C to -110°C

Our "Box-In-Box" concept combines innovation with 35 years of experience

Built in a CSC-certified 40-ft container, the ULT storage can be easily transported and relocated worldwide – wherever and whenever it is needed – without major assembly work

The ULT storage is designed as a "box-in-box" system consisting of an air lock zone refrigerated at -20°C and the ultra-low temperature section at -110°C. This two-chamber principle avoids heat intake to a minimum. The humidity inside can also be controlled by dehumidification in the airlock.

The used refrigerants are air, CO2 and propane. Thus, our solution is the first all-natural ultra-low-temperature storage container – more sustainability is not possible.

Air as natural refrigerant

The mobile ULT storage uses an innovative, efficient and sustainable air circulation refrigeration technology. The chiller is based on the Joule-Bryton process with air as the only refrigerant. With a maximum overpressure of 1 bar, this is an extremely safe and stable process.

The centerpiece is an oil-free compressor-expander unit that works with one common shaft only for energy recovery.

A significant advantage: Air as a refrigerant is natural, always available and free of charge, non-toxic, non-flammable and harmless to people and the environment!

The air circulation refrigeration unit

The air circulation refrigeration unit The air circulation refrigeration unit in our ultra-low temperature storage works in an open circuit. It sucks in air that can contain ice crystals and dirt from inside the cold room, cleans it with two redundant filters, cools it down and finally blows the air back into the cold chamber.

The expanded, cold air is evenly distributed throughout the room via a distribution system, resulting in an extremely homogeneous temperature distribution.

Due to the extremely low temperature at the intake, the dew point temperature is reduced by up to 20 K. This means that the products are stored in a particularly dry environment.

The air circulation refrigeration unit is integrated into the air-conditioned machinery room at the back of the ultra-low temperature storage and connected to the filter unit on the inside of the cold chamber.

Operational reliability through innovation

One of the most common causes of refrigeration system failure is a compressor damage. This can be caused by e.g., the intake of liquid refrigerant into the compressor or insufficient lubrication due to lack of oil or poor oil quality. In addition, cascade systems for low-temperature systems require multiple compressors to operate simultaneously, which increases the likelihood of failure. Our technology has no phase change, no oil and is wear-free with its air bearings. This guarantees the highest level of reliability.
